U.S. State Department Announcement
On May 28, 2025, the U.S. State Department made the following statement:
“Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields. We will also revise visa criteria to enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications from the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong.”
For current students: no action is needed at this time. Please monitor your Duke email for further updates.
For incoming students: Please be mindful of earlier communication regarding visa interview scheduling delays and updates related to visa interviews.
Duke will continue to share updates as we learn more. We understand the announcement from the State Department may cause concern for current and incoming Duke students from China; please be assured you are valued members of the Duke community. We encourage students to reach out to their DVS liaisons, DISC staff, or academic programs with any questions or concerns.
