Update on F-1 and J-1 Visa Appointment Scheduling
U.S. consulates around the world have reopened slots for visa interviews. Reports indicate that these interviews will now include social media screening for the following:
- Signs of hostility towards U.S. citizens, culture, government, institutions, or the founding principles of the United States
- Advocacy for, support of, or involvement with foreign terrorists and other threats to U.S. national security
- Support for unlawful antisemitic harassment or violence
Consulates expect applicants to keep their social media profiles public as part of the screening process.
If you are still waiting to schedule your visa interview, please check with your local consulate regularly to find the earliest available appointment.
If you are receiving this message and already have a visa interview scheduled, double-check to ensure that your interview is still set as planned.
If you already possess a visa, no further action is required.
Please continue to check your Duke email regularly for updates from the university and your academic program.
