Reminder: Change of Address Requirement

Federal regulations require all foreign nationals to report any change in their U.S. physical address – not office addresses or P.O. Boxes – to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) within 10 days of any move. This applies throughout the summer and to temporary housing situations. We understand many students will be staying with friends and family during the summer, and we offer this reminder for all international students to report address changes to the federal government. If you plan to stay in a location other than the location presently reported to DHS for more than a week, please update your address accordingly and as many times as necessary to maintain accurate records.

Please ensure you update your address based on your visa status as noted below:

• Current enrolled students should update their address in DukeHub and the TDS Portal on Duke Visa Services website;
• Students who graduated or are currently on OPT or STEM OPT should update their SEVP Portal on DHS;
• J-1 scholars or graduates on J-1 Academic Training should report address changes to Duke Visa Services; and
• Any other visa type should use the U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS) form online.

As a reminder, the University issued updated travel advisories in November 2025. If you do leave the country this summer, or at any time, you should be prepared to present documents which confirm you are a Duke student and the address where you will live when you re-enter the U.S. You can request evidence of your enrollment at Duke on DukeHub here.
