Introduction to Immigration Basics

Presented by Duke Visa Services. This class is designed to assist department representatives with issues, factors, and the general mechanics of the visa sponsorship process at Duke. This session will not include issues pertaining to international students or admissions. Topics will include an overview of terminology, processing times and procedures for specific visa categories (B—1, J—1, TN, H—1B, etc.), related legal obligations, and the implications of noncompliance. Tips on avoiding common pitfalls as well as coordinating sponsorship with academic appointments, credentialing, and payroll will also be highlighted.
